Cherry Lane Elementary School students have been busy making the holiday season brighter for others this month with creative giving projects. With “Kindness Makes the World a Happy Place” as this month’s character education theme, children in kindergarten through second grade are participating in schoolwide activities that are sure to spread joy to others.
Members of the Cherry Lane Building Planning Team Character Education subcommittee facilitated a holiday greeting card initiative in which students created cards to be sent to troops in Afghanistan.
“We wrote messages telling them to stay safe, have a happy holiday and know that their families are thinking of them,” said a student in Beth Morrow’s first-grade class. “We wanted to let them know that there are kids out there who appreciate all they do. They work so hard to keep kids safe all over the world.”
Children also created festive reindeer ornaments, which were delivered to members of the Carle Place Senior Center.
