The Bowling Green K-Kids recently held a fundraiser for Operation Smile at the Wendy’s of Garden City.
In addition to a special appearance by Wendy, several VIPs including Distinguished Past Governor of New York State Kiwanis John Gridley, Lt. Governor Designate Ann Torcivia and Operation Smile Nurse Volunteer Ellen Fernando joined the K-Kids and their families.
Fernando is the aunt of Bowling Green K-Kid Justin Infante and W.T. Clarke Key Clubber Katie Infante. Fernando will be volunteering on Operation Smile’s upcoming mission to Rwanda, Africa. Over the past few years, the Bowling Green K-Kids have been able to support Fernando and Operation Smile missions to the Jordan and Guatemala.
K-Kids PR Chair Kristina Schilt and her father Jeff Schilt who is Wendy’s North Region QSC Director planned the fundraiser.
The fundraiser raised $170 for Operation Smile, allowing the K-Kids to reach their goal of funding at least one child’s surgery.
Operation Smile is a worldwide children’s charity organization that helps treat facial deformities. In as few as 45 minutes, a child can be saved from a lifetime of pain, shame and isolation. Operation Smile gives them a chance to go to school, make friends and have a bright future. As little as a $240 donation provides a free surgery for a child suffering from cleft lip or cleft palate.
