Westbury Interim Superintendent of Schools Mary Lagnado was recently awarded a doctoral degree in Administrative and Instructional Leadership from St. John’s University.
Lagnado has been with the Westbury School District for 12 years. Prior to her current position as interim superintendent, Lagnado served as Westbury’s Assistant Superintendent of Business and Management and currently oversees that important function, in addition to her superintendent responsibilities.
Lagnado decided to go back to school after a doctoral fair held by the Long Island Council of Administrative Women in Education.
“As a life-long learner, it is important for people to pursue their education goals at any point in life,” Lagnado says. “The program provided an opportunity for exposure to the most current educational research, allowing me to create a vision that addresses all the needs of today’s youngsters in the district.”
Westbury Board of Education President Rodney Caines congratulated Lagnado on her achievement.
“Dr. Lagnado is a consummate professional who cares deeply for the children of Westbury,” Caines said. “I want to congratulate her for earning her doctoral degree and look forward to continuing to work with her.”
