The Carle Place Fireball U14 boys travel soccer team is to be commended for their accomplishments. It all started in spring 2007 when they won the LIJSL Waldbaum’s Cup, and in the fall of 2008 they had an undefeated season (9-0-0), moving them up to division four. In the spring of 2009 they lost in the semi-finals of the Waldbaum’s Cup but went on to win the ENYYSA State Challenge Cup. They finished in second place for their division moving them up to division three. In the fall of 2009 they finished the season undefeated (6-0-3) moving them up to division two. Spring of 2010 they went on to hold the title once again as the reigning champions of the State Challenge Cup. The game was held at Soccer Field in Plainview on June 12. They played against the Newfield Bulldogs and after regulation time the score was tied 2 to 2. It went to two 10- minute overtime periods at which time the score was tied 3 to 3. Penalty kicks decided it all. The game ended with a Fireball victory 4 to 3. The Fireballs also won the sportsmanship award for 2010. For the past four seasons their divisional record is an impressive 29 wins, two losses and five ties. This fall they will be moving up to division one. They have developed a great passion for playing the game. It is not often that a team (any team, particularly a group from such a small community) puts together two years (four seasons) like this group has. Hopefully the boys want to keep moving forward.
