Carle Place High School sophomores Leanne Iannucci and Ashley Cole were recently selected to compete in the Queen of Diamonds Softball Showcase East (QDSE) at Hofstra University on Aug. 21 and 22. The QDSE is a first year event, though its sister showcases in the north and south are considered to be the largest fast pitch softball showcases of their kind in the U.S.
This first year event has attracted athletes from 17 states and two Canadian Provinces. This year alone there were nearly 5000 applicants to the Queen of Diamonds Showcase events in the U.S. The showcase is unique as athletes actually apply to this event individually and are selected based on many criteria ranging from ability, potential, academic record, graduation year, coach’s requests and referrals.
Iannucci is a four-year varsity catcher and first baseman, while Cole, another four-year starter who pitches and plays first base, play under Coach Chris Ceruti at CPHS. Both young ladies play summer travel softball for BP All Stars Elite for Brilynn Fields and Angel Manguel (coaches).
