The David Lerner Associates Police Appreciation 5K Run recently drew a record 600 participants to Eisenhower Park in an annual event that raises money for The Police Crisis Fund, which aids Nassau and Suffolk County law enforcement personnel and families in times of personal emergencies, including on-the-job injuries. In its 19 years, the fund has distributed more than $250,000 locally.
“I am truly humbled by the sacrifices made by members of law enforcement as they keep us safe. This is a cause to which we are committed. We are honored and proud to sponsor the run and support Nassau and Suffolk’s finest who do such a great job,” said David Lerner, founder of the Syosset-based investment firm David Lerner Associates.
Serving as this year’s official race starter was Nassau County Police Officer Kevin Baribault, a fund recipient who is recovering from multiple injuries he suffered when his police cruiser was struck by a drunk driver’s vehicle on the LIE. Officer Baribault and his family received a donation from The Police Crisis Fund after the 2008 accident.
Awards were presented to the top three male and top three female runners in each age group, as well as to the top wheelchair racers. In addition, David Lerner presented the Susan Lipsig Memorial Award, in memory of a long-time David Lerner Associates employee, to the first-place female runner. A large contingent of law enforcement personnel competed, including members of the Nassau County Police Runners Club and special awards were presented in a “Law Enforcement” division. The race was organized by the Greater Long Island Running Club.
The David and Lois Lerner Foundation actively donates to a variety of not-for-profit organizations in the arts, education, human services and other areas both on and off Long Island. For more information about David Lerner Associates, call 1-800-367-3000 or log on to www.davidlerner.com.
