WHS Alumni Football Players Reunite On SUNY Maritime Football Team

SUNY Maritime, a Division III school, participates in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) and ChrisRichard JeanBaptiste (Westbury High School Class of 2009) and Keith Barnes (Westbury High School Class of 2006) are both currently attending SUNY Maritime and playing on the college’s football team.

Freshman ChrisRichard (6’0, 275 pounds) saw duty at defensive tackle. He has been improving his strength through the “Bigger, Faster, Stronger” program at SUNY Maritime. His bench press maximum was 405lbs and his squat maximum was 545 pounds. ChrisRichard is also working on lowering his time on the 40-yard dash through intensive spring practices and summer off-season workouts.  He has selected International Transportation and Trade as his academic major.

Sophomore Keith Barnes (6’0, 240 pounds) started every one of the season’s 10 games at linebacker. Keith led the team in tackles (77 tackles and 8 tackles for a loss) and was awarded “Defensive MVP for Maritime Football.”  He was selected as an “EFFC Second Team All Conference Linebacker.” Keith is the first player in Maritime history to win the ECFC “Defensive Player of the Week.”  His tackles total placed him in the top 25 in NCAA III.  Keith is majoring in International Transportation and Trade.

In 2009, over 100 companies from business, engineering, maritime, and government industries flocked to recruit students on the SUNY Maritime College campus. The average starting salary for the undergraduate Class of 2009 was $62,600. Westbury is extremely proud of these two home-grown stars and wishes them great success.
