North Shore-LIJ Making Strides For Women’s Health Care

Mark your calendar now for an inspirational day: Sunday, May 16. That’s when thousands of women and those who love them most will gather at Jones Beach State Park in Wantagh for “Every Woman Matters: A Walk for Women and Their Families.” Proceeds from the 5K walk, to take place along the boardwalk in celebration of women’s health and wellness, will benefit the new Katz Women’s Hospital and Women’s Health Institute of the North Shore-LIJ Health System.

Hosted jointly by North Shore-LIJ and the Commerce & Industry Council, the 3.1-mile Every Woman Matters Walk is open to women, men and children of all ages. It will feature exhibitions, hands-on activities and giveaways for the whole family. Refreshments and musical entertainment will round out the morning. The walk is being supported by title sponsor Dottie Herman and Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate, along with many other generous individual and corporate sponsors.

“The Every Woman Matters Walk shares the same goal as the Katz Women’s Hospital and Women’s Health Institute: to bring women and their families closer together by empowering these women to make healthier lifestyle choices, both for themselves and for their loved ones,” said Neeta M. Shah, MD, FACP, vice president of women’s health services for North Shore-LIJ. “On May 16, we want women to walk with their families to set an example of good health for their children and future generations to come.”

Construction is progressing on the Katz Women’s Hospital at both LIJ Medical Center in New Hyde Park and North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset. In state-of-the-art spaces specially designed for women, the Katz Women’s Hospital will offer a full range of obstetrical and gynecological services. At the same time, North Shore-LIJ is developing the Women’s Health Institute to provide the community with informative classes, screenings, wellness programs and clinical trials devoted to discovering treatments and cures for a wide range of conditions affecting women.
