Registration is open for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Long Island Chapter’s 2010 Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology walkMS, being held on Sunday, May 2. As in previous years, the chapter is organizing walks in two Long Island locations at Jones Beach State Park and Belmont Lake State Park. If you’d like to bring a furry friend along, you may attend the Pooch Parade (at Belmont Lake only)!
Those who wish to participate can register at the chapter’s website, http://www.nmssli.org. There is no fee to participate, however anyone who raises more than $125 will receive an official 2010 Zwanger-Pesiri walkMS T-shirt. The National MS Society, Long Island Chapter strongly encourages participants to register as early as possible and to form teams with family, friends, and/or co-workers.
Team captain Kathleen Czarnogorski was diagnosed with MS in March 2007. “No one thinks your eye sight will disappear or that you will lose the feeling in your legs in your mid-twenties, but MS has done that and more to me. That is why my team and I are committed to walking each year until there is a cure,” she said. Regarding the walk, Czarnogorski said that “the atmosphere that the Long Island Chapter creates for us is fun, energetic and welcoming and they truly support us in every step we take.”
There are more than 42,000 people affected by MS living on Long Island. The Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology walkMS event seeks to raise awareness about multiple sclerosis while raising funds to benefit crucial research to find a cure. The event hopes to bring in $1 million and these funds will support more than 60 programs and services offered by the National MS Society, Long Island chapter to support those affected by MS.
