Wild Frogs: this seems to be a popular buzz around the boy’s locker room and on the football field at Carle Place Middle School/High School.
A Wild Frog is not a rare amphibian hopping through the halls or on the athletic fields but rather the successful football merger of the Wheatley Wildcats and the Carle Place Frogs.
Developed three seasons ago due to a lack of participation from Carle Place students and an increased interest in playing football from Wheatley athletes, the Carle Place and Wheatley School Districts partnered together once again for the 2009 football season as the Carle Place/ Wheatley Wild Frogs.
Off to a slow start from previous seasons, it’s apparent that the hard work and dedication from both districts is finally paying dividends.
“We understand that it is an inconvenience for Wheatley’s student/athletes to travel to Carle Place for practices and games, but the opportunity to develop as a team, create friendships and bonds that may not have otherwise been created, play a great sport and win some games have far out weighed the five-minute commute,” said Head Coach Tim Moran.
The support and communication between the Carle Place and Wheatley Board of Education members has been positive. This, combined with the efforts and continued support of both athletic administrators, support staff and coaching staff, has made the merger successful. The interest in football from the student athletes in both districts is on the rise.
The upcoming schedule for the Carle Place/Wheatley Wild Frogs is as follows: Oct. 16 at Samuel J. Tilden High School (Homecoming); Oct. 24 at home versus Valley Stream North; and Oct. 31 at Floral Park.
