The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Long Island Chapter, is bringing the spirit of the Hala-Kahiki to Long Island with its first Pineapple Classic 5K. The event will be held on Sunday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The NYIT Campus in Old Westbury. It will feature a post-race luau with beer garden and entertainment.
This is not your ordinary 5K. It’s a fun, Hawaiian-themed, 5K obstacle course run. Participants, who are encouraged to dress in Hawaiian-themed outfits, will be climbing, crawling, bouncing and bending to raise funds for blood cancer research.
The event is open to anyone age 8 years or older. Participants register in single-gender or co-ed teams of two, three or four. Prizes are awarded for the fastest teams and best costumes in all categories. Check-in starts at 9 a.m. and participants begin the race in waves for which selections are made during registration. The first wave of participants will begin at 10 a.m.
Registration fees are: $50/Individual, $90/Two-Person Team, $135/Three-Person Team; and $180/Four-Person Team. Each participant has a fundraising goal of $150. All registered participants receive a T-shirt, one plate of food at the luau and drinks.
There are also a number of gift incentives for fundraising.
