On Friday night, Feb. 3, the Carle Place girl’s varsity basketball team hosted Wheatley in their usual Conference B matchup but the night was anything but usual. Both teams wore pink “playing for a cure” T-shirts during warm-ups and the gym was adorned in breast cancer ribbons as the girls dedicated the game to the battle against the disease. Senior cheerleader Kailee Pizza performed the Star-Spangled Banner prior to the game and an exciting game ensued, with the Lady Frogs coming out on top with a 49-39 victory. Junior Samantha Burden scored 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, while freshman Sarah Pisani added 13 points, seven rebounds, six steals and five assists. At half time of the game, one of the town CYO teams played a five-minute scrimmage to show off the talents of the younger basketball players in Carle Place. It was a great night for basketball and hopefully it added to the battle we are fighting to find a cure for breast cancer.
