CPHS Varsity Softball Lady Frogs Enjoy Best Record in History

The 2011 Carle Place Varity Softball Team posted the best overall record since the program began in 1997, with an overall record of 19-3-1 and 14-0 in league play. The season was a success: Class B/C Conference Champions, Class B County Championships and Class B Long Island Champions.

The Lady Frogs were ranked ninth in the state for “B” schools. In 15 varsity seasons, the Lady Frogs have captured five conference championships, eight county championships, four Long Island championships and one Final Four at appearance at States.

The team consisted of 11 talented players, including senior captain Dana McLaughlin; junior captain Leanne Iannucci, Ashley Cole, Tori Hytell and Amanda Machado; sophomores Sam Burden, Taylor Ruscillo, Nicole Grande, Brooke Topel; freshmen Kaitlyn Davis and Keara Mooney.

Some of the highlights for the 2011 season included a team that had 629 at bats, 204 hits, 146 singles, 36 doubles, 14 triples, eight homeruns, 171 RBIs, 43 stolen bases, 292 total bases, 412 putouts, 114 assists and a .956 fielding average.

Ashley Cole had an .864 winning percentage on the mound. Her impressive stats include 128 innings pitched, 235 strikeouts, 72 hits, only four walks and a .60 ERA.

Congratulations to Ashley Cole (pitcher, All County), who received the Co-Most Valuable Player Award for the team and MVP for the County. Ashley was named All Long Island First Team  and All State Third Team. Leanne Iannucci (catcher, All County), received Co-Most Valuable Player and was named All Long Island Second Team and All State Fifth Team. Tori Hytell (shortstop) received All County Honors and the Coaches’ Award. Sam Burden (third base) received All Conference Honors and Most Improved Player Award. Dana McLaughlin (second base) received All Conference Honors, the Scholar-Athlete Award and the Outstanding Effort Award. Kaitlyn Davis (first base) received All Conference Honors and Amanda Machado (left field) received All Division Honors. Coach Ceruti received Coach of the Year.

Ceruti said, “I know these young ladies are proud to wear a Carle Place uniform. Congratulations to the 2011 Varsity Softball Team.”
