Westbury Little League’s seniors won their second straight Colt Division Championship with a resounding 15-1 victory over division rival, Plainview, at the East Meadow complex on Monday, June 27.
Westbury, coached by Ralph Davis, Lou Mejica and Matt Alford, savored this win as it concluded a solid season with just one loss to this same Plainview team earlier in the season.
Brian Waldhof led Westbury with a 5-0 record, sealing a spot on the Division All-Star team together with power-hitters Ralph Davis, Carlos Viquez Brandon Percival and Matt Alford.
The championship game was highlighted by a dominating pitching performance from Davis with 10 strikeouts and strong hitting by the squad, led by Davis, Alford, Viquez, Andy Sanchez, Percival and Adam Waldhof. Sanchez closed out the seventh inning with a strong one-hit inning, ending with a pop out to Davis who moved to third base. This was a team effort with Westbury jumping out to an early 6-0 lead at the end of the first inning. It was all downhill after that as Davis dominated hitters with his fastball and finesse combined with a strong defense and hitting from the entire squad.
