Westbury AD Doric Capsis Given Track and Field Award

On June 14 the Nassau County Track Coaches Association presented the Allen Dawson Memorial Award for contributions to the sport of track and field to Westbury UFSD Director of Athletics Doric Capsis.

The award was presented at the Nassau County Track and Field Officials dinner, which was held at the Stewart Thomas Manor in Farmingdale.  Former Section VIII running coordinator and retired Great Neck School’s Athletic Director Bob Baratta recognized Capsis’ contributions to the sport of track and field, which included complimenting his friendliness to officials, coaches, parents and athletes and willingness to help with what ever was needed to create a great track meet.

Baratta thanked Mr. Capsis and the Westbury UFSD for hosting Middle School winter track meets, Middle School spring track meets, High School Conference meets, High School Division meet, Nassau Coaches Meet, and the two day New York State Qualifiers.

Baratta closed by calling Mr. Capsis “the best A.D.” The award is named in honor of Allen Dawson, who was a distinguished track coach from Manhasset High School. Dawson coached the legendary Jim Brown in track during his time at Manhasset High School. The outstanding Westbury High School custodial staff and athletic event supervisors are two other reasons why Westbury High School is considered to be the premier track facility in Nassau County by Track Officials and Track Coaches.
