In its 2010 season opener, the Chiefs 9-year-old team continued its winning ways from last season and beat the Hicksville Crusaders 33-20. The Chiefs Offense led by hard to catch quarterback Michael O’Connell had three touchdown runs and was able to move the ball because of the great blocking by the offensive line of Nick Monteforte, Kevin Parente, Patrick McTiernan, Anthony Giunta, Andrew Cho, Dylan Vincenti and Tight End Jason Eccher.
Strong running by running backs Jack Duff (1 TD, 1XP Run), Matt Sluka (1 TD Run) and Lance Costa (2 XP Runs) helped the Chiefs Offense control the ball and field posession.
The Chiefs defense created mismatches at the line of scrimmage, making gang tackles and constantly making plays in the Crusaders’ backfield. The defensive Line of Joe Martello, Michael Sinisi, Spenser Warantz, Philip Arnold, Andrew Khafif, Austin Krasinski, Jeremy Samuel and John Driscoll kept the pressure on Hicksville’s offense the whole day.
Linebackers O’Connell and Sluka attacked the ball and finished off the Crusaders. The cornerbacks and safeties kept the perimeter play of the Crusaders in check, which were led by Duff, Costa, Eccher, Andrew Casoria, Ryan Calderone and Thomas Albig.
Scoring is summarized below:
O’Connell 50 yard Touchdown Run (extra point failed)
O’Connell 48 yard Touchdown Run (extra point failed)
O’Connell 55 yard Touchdown Run (Lance Costa extra point Run)
45 yard Touchdown Run (Jack Duff extra point Run)
Jack Duff 8 yard Touchdown Run (Lance Costa extra point Run)
