Summer Polo Match, Lawn Party To Benefit SUNY Old Westbury

The State University of New York (SUNY) College at Old Westbury will host its 10th Annual Summer Polo Match and Lawn Party on Sunday, June 26 from 2:30 to 6 p.m. at Hickox Field in Old Westbury.

This championship polo tradition raises funds to support academic and programmatic enhancements at the College, while also honoring those who advocate for the preservation of Long Island’s open spaces.

Dedicated to the Memory of Gerard F. O’Connor, the Carle Place Athletic Booster Club will hold its 17th annual golf outing at the North Hempstead Country Club on Monday, Aug. 1. The cost is $220 per golfer and must be received by July 15. There will be refreshments on the course, lunch, cocktails and a full buffet dinner (cocktails and dinner only costs $75 per person). The event is limited to 128 golfers so don’t delay in making reservations. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100. Two Students Holding Benefit for PTSD on June 11

Brave American military personnel willingly put themselves in danger in service to their country every day. The effects of this kind of activity cause some veterans to experience symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD.

According to information put out by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, “Most people have some stress-related reactions after a traumatic event… In moments of danger, our bodies prepare to fight our enemy, flee the situation, or freeze in the hope that the danger will move past us. But those feelings of alertness may stay even after the danger has passed.” This can lead to anxiety, depression, anger and more.

Stephen Laurino: 100th hit

Carle Place senior baseball player Stephen Laurino reached a milestone on Thursday, April 7 while playing against Malverne High School.  In his third at bat of the game, Stephen connected for his 100th career varsity hit. Stephen finished the game going 2-4 with a double and also reached on an error. A four-year varsity player and three-year captain, Stephen is a member of the prestigious Long Island Titans baseball club and was one of 18 players selected to the gold medal winning team at the 2010 Empire State games. Stephen has signed a letter of intent to play Division I baseball at Marist College next year. He is currently leading the conference in home runs with five and is batting .550 for the year. 

 

‘Golf for Paws’ Event to Benefit Dogs at TNH Animal Shelter

On Friday, June 10 Harbor Links Golf Course is going to the dogs. Families, animal-lovers and golfers are invited to join together and have fun while benefiting the dogs at the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter. The evening kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception followed by miniature golf and BBQ dinner for all the family and twilight golf on the Executive Course for golf enthusiasts. Golfers can win prizes in the putting and closest-to-the-pin contest and, most excitingly, have the chance to win the Hole-in-One-Prize: a lease on a 2011 BMW 128 Coupe. Other attractions on the night include a Grand Prize Raffle, live music and golfer goody-bags.
