Leanne is a well-rounded young lady who has been recognized as an extraordinary person for her numerous contributions in the classroom, on the field and with her involvement in many extracurricular activities at Carle Place Middle/High School.
The Carle Place Civic Association will be hosting its 32nd Family Fun Run/Walk Day on Oct. 23. Registration will be held on Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Carle Place High School lobby and on Sunday, Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. to noon. Race starts at 1 p.m. Participants can walk or run alone or with your family. Registration fee is $10, which includes an event T-shirt.
On Monday, Oct. 4, the sun rose over the North Hills Country Club for the 6th Annual Westbury Friends School Golf and Tennis Outing. Physical education teacher Nick Belle and his Outing Committee donated their time and effort since last March to plan for this important fundraising event for Westbury Friends School.
Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS), Long Island’s leading organization dedicated to the prevention of bullying, child abuse and neglect, will host a night of friendly competition at its first CAPS Cosmic Bowling Benefit; a fundraiser for its Bully Prevention Center programs and services. The event will be held at the AMF East Meadow Lanes, East Meadow on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 7 to 10 p.m.
The SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team helped raise money and awareness for the West Islip Breast Cancer Care Coalition Sunday afternoon by participating in a Zumba-Thon at Roseland School of Dance in Oakdale, New York. Panther Softball participated in all three hours of the Zumba-Thon that raised $450 for breast cancer awareness.
The New York Islanders announced on Sept. 8 the launch of their campaign to celebrate their 40-Year Anniversary. The Islanders played their first National Hockey League season in 1972 and are proud to celebrate 40 years on Long Island.
The theme for the Islanders’ upcoming season is “Commitment,” representing the organization’s ongoing commitment to its fans and the Long Island community.
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano invites players and teams to participate for The Long Island Senior Softball Championship Tournament brought to you by Senior Softball USA at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale. The tournament will take place on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, Oct 2 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“This tournament is the perfect opportunity for residents who love the game to play in a friendly competition and possibly earn the title of Champion,” said Mangano.
One of Westbury Friends School fifth-grade graduates, Meaghan Brostowin, competed in the Diving Regionals in July in Rockville, Maryland. She succeeded in qualifying for the Diving Nationals, which took place at the University of Tennessee in August. Meaghan’s division is Platform/Tower diving sponsored by USA Junior Olympic Diving. In Tennessee, she medaled in platform/tower diving by coming in fifth place in the country.
The Carle Place Athletic Booster Club, in support of its middle and high school students, is seeking new members for the upcoming school year.
The funds raised through your membership contribution ($20 Family, $50 Masters, $100 Platinum) enable the CPABC to donate and fund needed equipment, scholarships, tournament sponsorships, to assist teams that have successfully advanced to statewide competition. Over the last nine years, through your generous efforts, the CPABC has donated in excess of $100,000 to the Carle Place athletic program.
