Editor’s Note: The letter below was addressed to Mayor Peter Cavallaro and the Westbury B.I.D.
As someone who had a loved one murdered at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, I beg you to reconsider your decision to hold the Post Avenue Street Fair on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010. I understand that a memorial service is to be held first followed by the fair.
A fair on a day when nearly 3,000 people were murdered by terrorists and another 800 plus have died since then from illnesses received as rescuers at the Trade Center?
Thousands of men and women have died fighting wars since the 9-11 attacks and, instead of honoring them, you decide to hold a street fair. You show the terrorists how quickly we forget.
I beg all the merchants and community people to boycott your fair in memory of those who were murdered.
What are your plans for the 10th anniversary of 9-11? A fireworks show? God forgive you.
