Letter: Superintendent Thanks Voters

The board of education, administration, staff and especially the students of the Westbury School District are thankful for your approval of the 2009-2010 budget.

Thanks to the community’s support, we are able to offer our students a unique educational experience rivaling or exceeding many of our neighboring districts. Some of the programs include full-day pre-kindergarten, a groundbreaking magnet program at the Cradle of Aviation Museum, an innovative marine sciences program, more advanced placement classes and many other programs and courses designed to stimulate the mind and enrich the soul while preparing our children to succeed in a highly complex and competitive world.

Student achievement continues to grow and more of our seniors are graduating and going on to two- and four-year colleges and universities. Their accomplishments are a source of great pride for all of us in the community, and I know your support offers them the encouragement to succeed socially and academically, unlocking unlimited potential. You have assured that our students will continue to receive the quality education they deserve, while allowing them to participate in so many extra-curricular and cultural activities that enhance their overall learning experience, and making it fun and interesting in the process.

While we understand that not everyone supported the budget, for whatever reasons, we still pledge to you that we will continue with our long-standing mission in providing our students with the best possible education at the best possible price. We maintain our longstanding commitment to controlling costs wherever possible and actively pursuing grants and other funding opportunities to help ease the burden placed on our taxpayers.

As I have said before, when the community supports its public schools it sends a clear message to the children that people do indeed care about their future. I sincerely believe that they, in turn, will continue to make the great advances in their academic performances as they have demonstrated over the past few years and in so doing, create the next generation of leaders we will all be proud of.

Once again, thank you for your support of the Westbury Public Schools.

Dr. Constance R. Clark-Snead
Superintendent, Westbury School District
