Letter: CP Superintendent Thanks Voters

I write to extend thanks from the Carle Place School District for your recent approval of the 2010-2011 school budget. Our voter turnout, despite the rainy weather, represented a nice cross-section of our school community and, again, highlighted the fact that community residents place great value on the education of our children. The Carle Place Board of Education and the District Administration made some decisions in crafting the budget that will reduce the size and scope of our organization. These decisions helped us construct a budget that you have judged as worthy of your support, as it reflects the realities of the current economy.

Now our work begins in earnest. By your vote, you have provided the resources for us to help our students be successful. As I have done in previous years, I renew my pledge that we will endeavor to provide a vibrant, quality education to all of our students and that we will do so in a manner that values trust, honesty and integrity. We will also work diligently to properly maintain the existing facilities in a way that makes you not only proud of your school facilities, but also actively promotes the value of your home in the school community that you have faithfully supported throughout the years.

In expressing my thanks for the community support of our budget, I also recognize that a number of residents felt that they could not support the budget. To those who chose that option, I renew our promise that our budgeting efforts made this year were made deliberately because we are fully cognizant that the ensuing school year budget (2011-2012), and beyond, will present additional challenges for our small district. We remain committed that our budgeting efforts will continue to be centered around the concept of balancing student needs with what taxpayers can afford. We also would ask you to remain engaged, as we intend to be, in conversation with State and local politicians to seek options to fund education in a manner that does not rely solely on the value of property.

The passage of our school budget is very much appreciated. Thank you for your support. I promise that we will continue to work diligently to build an appropriate foundation for our students to experience success in the world beyond Carle Place.
