I want to wish you and your family a healthy and happy new year! I also want to thank you for the privilege of representing you for the last 22 years, first as a school board member then as a town councilman and, more recently, as a county legislator. During that time much has been accomplished, with your support, to move our community forward, including:
• Winning the coveted National School of Excellence Awards for three of our schools;
• Attracting $80 million of private investment funds for the revitalization of Prospect Avenue;
• Realization of the dream of generations past with the opening of The Yes We Can Community Center which will serve generations to come.
I am proud of these and other accomplishments during my tenure as an elected official. But, the time has come to move to a new phase of my representation of our community. As you may have read, I decided to accept an appointed position in Supervisor Judi
Bosworth’s administration in the Town of North Hempstead. I had the pleasure of working with Judi for four years in the Nassau County Legislature and I look forward to working with her, and Councilwoman Viviana Russell, in the Town of North Hempstead.
Judi offered me an opportunity to have an even bigger impact on our community, as well as the rest of the Town, than I could have in the Legislature. On Jan. 2, I stepped-down from the Legislature and stepped-up to a new, senior position in the Town. I will have oversight responsibility for a large part of the government, specifically:
• The Community Development Agency;
• The Housing Authority;
• The Planning Department;
• The Building Department;
• Public Works, including Highways;
• Parks, including the Yes We Can Community Center;
• Public Safety; the
• 311Call Center; and
• Information Technology.
The turn of the calendar from one year to the next marks a time of transition from the old to the new. It is also a time for reflection on all the possibilities that come with new beginnings. I am excited by the possibilities my new role offers to do more than ever before. I look forward to continuing to work with you and for our community.
Once again, happy New Year and thank you for your support. May God bless you with health and prosperity this year and forever more.
