Since my decision in early 2009 to step down as mayor, there has been an outpouring of warm friendship and complimentary sentiment from everyone. I have received many cards, letters of congratulations and phone calls wishing me well. It was rewarding for me to see so many residents and members of the village family who attended my last meeting as mayor with the board. It was a rich and wonderful experience to hear them thank me and wish me good health as I stepped down from public service.
On Thursday, April 16 at the dinner-dance in the Westbury Manor several hundred attendees shared that evening with me and my family. I will always be grateful to the many elected officials of federal, state, county, town and village government who took time out from their busy schedules and pay their tribute to me. In addition, I will forever be indebted to the various village organizations, religious societies, civic associations and the extraordinary number of residents and friends who were there. All were extremely generous in their comments and extension of best wishes for my future.
Most of all, I was humbled and have difficulty to find the words to thank Mayor Peter Cavallaro and the board of trustees, County Executive Tom Suozzi and the members of the county legislature for the manner in which they determined to mark my years of service. The manner in which they decided to honor my years of service was stunning and totally unexpected.
My very sincere heartfelt thanks and deep appreciation to everyone. To have served the Village of Westbury has always been and will be my great pleasure and high honor.
