Contemporary culture in America contains a disturbing amount of violence.
Many young people across the country will probably watch a violent movie and play a violent video game today.
Unfortunately, violence in modern entertainment is somewhat unavoidable. Does all that visual consumption feed into what ends up being the horrendous crimes reported in the news media, as we have on the front page of this newspapers today?
It’s hard not to think so.
Hearing about the 23-year-old New Cassel man who allegedly beat and robbed a 68-year-old man from Hicksville – who suffers from dementia and Alzheimer’s and wandered away from home – is just hard to comprehend.
Senseless is the most appropriate assessment in this case because what happened that day, quite simply, does not make any humane sense.
Here is to hoping we teach our children well. One more crime like this is one too many.
