In the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, I wanted to express to the residents of the village my appreciation for their patience and understanding as we recover from the damage wrought by the storm.
While I understand that many of us were without power and other utilities for an extended period of time, the village worked as quickly as we could to remove downed trees, keep our roads open and safe for travel, repair broken streetlights, etc. Our DPW and other staff worked very long and hard to make sure that our village services were maintained, and I want to thank our employees for all of their dedication and hard work.
LIPA, which was responsible for restoring power, was (and still is as of Sept. 1) working to make sure that all power is restored as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, many of the outages have extended for prolonged periods and this has caused some residents inconvenience. We have kept in constant communication with LIPA to make sure that the village’s outages were being addressed as quickly as possible.
Events such as Hurricane Irene often cause hardships to residents and businesses. I want to thank everyone in the community for cooperating with the authorities (including the village) to make sure that recovery from the storm could be accomplished as quickly as possible.
