To let the people of Westbury know, I wrote a letter to The Westbury Times in July, “Shame on Our School District.”
Well the Westbury School District did go out to the middle school and look. They went on Aug. 26 and again with me on Aug. 30. I also had a representative from Senator Craig Johnson’s office with me. I must say thank you to all. There has been a cleanup at the middle school and there is still more to go and that is in all schools.
I also told Mr. Batkiewicz, director of school facilities and operations, that I told the district a year ago there had been a broken seat in the Powell’s Lane School auditorium. It was fixed on Sept. 22. Thank you.
In the last month someone said to me, “Are you afraid of the school district?” No! Why should I? I volunteer in many schools. I care about the children and all of you are taxpayers. We, the taxpayer, pay the salary to the school district. You all should go to the school board meetings, SEPTA meetings and PTA meetings and look around the schools.
I have also been criticized about what I wrote in The Westbury Times in July. Well, members of the community, you should be thanking me because our children go to the middle school. Remember, a clean school is a happy school, and the children will be happy, too. And if you think this is a negative, well this is a positive thing I am doing for our children. I will see that our schools are clean.
The principal of the middle school, Mr. Powell, is not coming back. But for two years, he has gotten paid from the school district and did not work. Is this fair to our children! He should pay the district back. He did not work and that money should go to monitors on the pre-K and kindergarten buses. There are over 660 children going to Dryden St. School; they are babies and they need to be put in seats with seat belts. The drivers cannot do it alone and drive at the same time. Five pre-k classes go to St. Frances de Chantal R.C. in Wantagh. The district pays out $66,990 per year to them. Go back to half days and save that money and build here in Westbury.
On Oct. 15, there is a new show on TV called School Pride. Look for it, I will.
I would like to see changes in all our schools on LI and in Westbury. I am only one grandma and I want to start a committee to clean up our schools. Maybe we should have our own TV show…
