Jeanette Williams Glier, born Sept. 15, 1911 passed away on Nov. 14, 2010 at the fabulously wise age of 99, surrounded by her son’s family in Shelburne, MA.
Jeanette “Gramma” Glier spent her youth in Hempstead with her parents George and Marcella Williams and her two siblings George and Marion. She married Gordon M. Glier Sr. (who predeceased her on March 19, 1994) on March 3, 1945. Jeanette and Gordon were married for 49 years. The young couple arrived in Westbury in 1950, where she would live her life the next 56 years. She had two beautiful children, Bonnie Lee (who predeceased her on June 15, 1996) and Gordon Jr. (a.k.a. Skip). She worked for Aerolog, an affiliate of Grumman Aircraft in Bethpage. She was a frequent contributor of articles to the Westbury Times and St. Brigid’s Newsletter. In some of the most difficult times of her life, such as the loss of her daughter, Bonnie Lee - two years after the loss of her husband, Gordon Sr. - the many good friends she had in Westbury were a wonderful source of support for both her.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend whose eloquence, human compassion, unconditional regard, ability to forgive and positive thinking contributed to her very long life; regardless of her physical challenges. She was entertaining, philosophical and always easy to talk with. She will be greatly missed by so many of the lives she touched. One of her last statements was; “Life is short, be kind, We are all One.”
She is survived by her son Skip and his wife Joanne of Shelburne, MA, and five fabulous grandchildren, Jamie, Seth and Halley Glier of Shelburne, MA, Melissa Marlin of New York City, Melanie Lee Marlin-James and her husband Colin of California; two great-grandchildren; Samantha Lee and Andrew Jonathan James.
A life celebration service is being held in her memory at 11 a.m. on March 3, 2011, the day of her wedding anniversary to Gordon Sr. at St. Brigid’s Church, Post Ave., Westbury. A graveside service will follow. All arrangements are being handled by Donahue Funeral Home, Westbury. For more information contact Tommy Donahue at Donahue Funeral Home 333-0615.
