Family Barn Dance

President’s and Principal’s Dinner

Today will mark the 50th time PTA presidents, school administrators and invited guests from across Nassau County have gathered together to enjoy a special evening celebrating the collaboration between school and community. Held at the Crest Hollow Country Club, the distinguished guest speaker will be National PTA President Chuck Saylors. In addition to what is certain to be an informative and motivating speech by President Saylors, entertainment will be provided by some of Nassau County’s talented students from the LI High School for the Arts.

Casino Night Fundraiser

The Carle Place High School Athletic Booster Club will hold a Casino Night fundraiser from 8 p.m. to midnight at Our Lady of Hope Church, 534 Broadway, Carle Place. Senior Seasonal Flu Vaccination Program

Held by Nassau University Medical Center, 2201 Hempstead Tpke., East Meadow, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Dec. 15 in the NUMC auditorium. The NuHealth System seasonal influenza vaccination program is provided at no out-of-pocket expense for seniors 60 and older, who are urged to bring their Medicare card if they have one. Note that this program is for seasonal influenza only. H1N1 influenza (formerly known as Swine Flu) vaccine will not be offered at this program. Period rooms are beautifully and exquisitely decorated with wreaths, mantelpiece drapes, topiaries, plants and other horticultural arrangements. At Hicks Nurseries

Located at 100 Jericho Tpke., Westbury. The nursery is handicapped accessible throughout. The following is offered:

•LI’s talented chefs are coming to Hicks Nurseries to demonstrate special holiday dishes. The chefs will provide tastes of what they prepare and recipes. All sessions are one hour long and begin promptly at 11 a.m. in the Henry Hicks Learning Center. The demonstrations are free and reservations are not necessary but space is limited. Nov. 21: Glazed Ham and Candied Yams with Leisa Dent, LL Dent, Carle Place.

•Real live reindeer will be at Hicks from Nov. 27 through Dec. 24. Visit during store hours from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and until 8 p.m. on Sundays. There’s always a lot going on for children during the holiday season. Admission is free. Christmas Holiday Story open until Dec. 24 during store hours. Cookies Santa, displays with child-size moving figures, shows how Santa’s friends all make him his favorite treat. Free. There will be a food drive for charity so bring packaged and canned goods to donate. Mail letters to Santa in the North Pole Mailbox…and he will answer. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope.
