The Mineola Chiefs 6th Grade Boys Lacrosse team played in their home opener on April 26 and came back from behind to beat the undefeated North Shore Vikings 5-4 to continue their undefeated season (3-0).
Before the Chiefs knew what had happened, the horn blew to end the first quarter and the Chiefs found themselves down 3-0 on the scoreboard. During the quick break Coach Perro lit into the Chiefs for standing around and not playing with intensity. The Chiefs responded with a come from behind victory over the Vikings. Midfielder Thomas O'Connell recorded a Hat Trick with three goals and had an assist, a pass to attackman Chris Lockwood coming around the cage for a goal.
Midfielders James Gerstner, Peter McCormack, Gerard Boniello, Brian Smith and Kyle Dunleavy out-hustled a talented North Shore team 35-15 on ground balls. The Chiefs attackmen Michael Patalano, Dominic Paggi and Lockwood kept the heat on in the offensive zone. After the first quarter, the Chiefs defensemen Jake Connors, Gavin Dowd, Trifon Boniello and Teddy Capsis settled down and got physical to protect their goalie John Clancy, who made all seven of his saves in the second half.
