I am responding to the ads that I saw last week in The Westbury Times from the Friends of Westbury Party relating to the canceled garbage transfer station.
I don't understand why anyone would wish to discourage our elected Westbury officials and criticize for conducting a study to show how best to deal with the village's garbage. We elect them to review and inform us of these proposals and make decisions. I applaud them for exploring all options, on behalf of village residents and taxpayers.
I remember that the village officials kept us informed of the developments in garbage disposal as they occurred. Critics of village government were silent or anonymous on the issue then but now seem to be trying to take credit for it.
I trust my elected village officials to make the right decisions and, in the case of the garbage transfer station, they not only explored one of several options, one that would have brought in revenue and reduced my taxes, but they also made the right decision when it became evident that the transfer station in the village was not the right answer.
