At the Oct. 2 North Hempstead Town Board Meeting the Flow Control vote was the first item on the agenda. This law would require that all villages transport their garbage to the North Hempstead Transfer Station located on West Shore Road in Port Washington for a fee set by the town. However, some villages have made it known that they are not in favor of this resolution since to travel to Port Washington would mean extra gas for their garbage trucks and consequently the villages would be paying more money to dispose of their garbage, when presently they dispose of their garbage to a destination closer to their villages, resulting in less gas and less money.

After calling the meeting to order North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman said that the Flow Control Task Force has been working to resolve the differences of the various villages regarding Flow Control.

"We have been meeting with a few of the mayors and other folks in effort to reach a consensus on this resolution. We are pretty close but we are still working on language that will enable us to move forward. So, I think it is appropriate to put this over until the next meeting which will be on Oct. 21," said Kaiman.

The board then voted, unanimously, to bring back this resolution for a vote on Oct. 21 meeting to be held at 7:30 p.m. at North Hempstead Town Hall, 220 Plandome Road, Manhasset.
