The Mineola PAL 7-year-old Chiefs went on the road to Baldwin and beat the Bombers 13-6, for their second straight victory and a record of 2-0.
The Chiefs again were able to move the ball on offense because of the sound blocking of Joe Martello, Kevin Parente, Patrick McTiernan, Spenser Warantz, Anthony Giunta and Mathew O'Connell. Chiefs running backs Matthew Sluka, Jason Eccher, Jack Duff, Philip Arnold, Thomas Albig and Lance Costa ran hard and strong. Hard-to-catch quarterback Michael O'Connell zigzagged all over the field avoiding Bomber tacklers.
The Chiefs defense swarmed the Baldwin Bombers on every series. Intense pressure was put on by the defensive line of Dylan Vincenti, Aidan Hornberger, Michael LaGinestra, Jack Nichols, Matthew Grimm, Joseph Judge and Steven Mushorn while defensive backs Andrew Casoria, Costa, Albig and Duff helped take down the Bombers. Linebackers O'Connell and Sluka were focused as they attacked the ball making open field tackles all over the field.
The entire Mineola 7-year-old team played and participated in the victory. The scoring is summarized below:
• Michael O'Connell: 43-yard touchdown run (Lance Costa xpoint run)
• Michael O'Connell: 37-yard touchdown run (xpoint failed)
