Westbury High School's 2008 Homecoming celebration will take place Saturday, Sept. 27 and, this year's event will also serve to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the high school's opening in September 1958.

The annual Homecoming celebration will begin with the Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) Pancake Breakfast at 8 a.m. in the high school cafeteria. The cost is $6 per person and includes all the pancakes you can eat plus other breakfast items.

At noon, the Homecoming Parade will hit the streets, beginning at St. Brigid's Church and heading north to the high school. At 1:30 p.m., Westbury High School's Varsity Football Team, the Green Dragons, will take on the Island Trees' Bulldogs. Crowning of the Homecoming King, Queen and Court will take place during halftime.

Westbury High School did not begin its role in the community at its currently location at Post Road and Jericho Turnpike in Old Westbury but instead was run in a building located at Rockland and School streets; today that building serves as Westbury Middle School. On Sept. 3, 1958, the $4 million building opened on the current campus and serviced 10th through 12th grade until the early 1990s when the ninth grade classes were brought in.

In celebration of the school's 50th anniversary, Westbury High School alumni have collected old photographs and newspaper clippings showing different highlights in the history of the current high school and will have them on display during the pancake breakfast.
