According to detectives, a subject entered the Capital One Bank at 947 Old Country Road and handed the teller a note demanding money. After obtaining an unknown amount of U.S. currency, the subject fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. There were seven employees and five customers in the bank during the robbery; no one was injured.
Detectives believe this subject is responsible for a total of six similar robberies occurring throughout Nassau since June of this year, including: Chase Bank, Linden Boulevard, Elmont on June 12; Chase Bank, West Merrick Road, Valley Stream on June 16; Chase Bank, Hempstead Turnpike, Franklin Square on July 7; Bank of America, Hempstead Avenue, West Hempstead on July 18; and Bank of America, Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park on Aug. 4
In two of the above-mentioned robberies the subject displayed an automatic handgun. The subject is described as a dark-skinned black male, 30 to 50 years old and approximately 6 feet tall. In the case of the Aug. 21 robbery, the subject was wearing a black baseball cap, sunglasses and a tan shirt. Additionally, detectives state the subject wears a ring on the pinky and ring finger of his right hand as well as a ring on the ring finger of his left hand along with a large wristband.
Police state that the subject enters the bank, goes to the ticket station and writes his robbery demand note on the back of a deposit slip. He then waits on the customer teller line and, when he approaches, hands the victim teller a robbery demand note and then, in several cases, displays a handgun. The subject demands the proceeds be placed in an envelope when given to him.
Detectives ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or the Nassau County Police Department Robbery Squad at 573-8040. There is an up to $2,000 reward. All callers will remain anonymous.
