Forty-five Farmingdale State College athletes, including Westbury resident Janel Monah (women's basketball) and East Meadow resident Lama Awad (women's cross country), have qualified as Skyline Conference Scholar-Athletes for the 2007-2008 academic year.
Student-athletes must achieve a grade point average of 3.30 or higher during the semester in which they compete to earn the award. During the fall 2007 semester, 120 student-athletes posted a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or higher which represents 42 per cent of athletes who participated in the 18 NCAA Division III Intercollegiate sports.
"The Scholar Athlete Award is one of the most selective and prestigious awards bestowed by SUNY," said Farmingdale State College Interim Chancellor Clark. "It speaks volumes about the hard work, dedication and perseverance that our student athletes exhibit both in classroom and in their particular sport throughout the year."
