The largest display of movie, television and custom cars ever to be displayed on the East Coast will be on exhibit this weekend at the Cradle of Aviation Museum as part of a fundraising effort to establish a Long Island-based auto museum.
George Barris, a.k.a the King of Kustom Cars and the mastermind behind some of the world's greatest high-profile and one-of-a-kind movie and television cars, together with Andy Perillo and Mike Manning of NY Custom Coach, recently announced the establishment of the Committee for the Autoseum to create a museum for the preservation of some of the most famous vehicles of all time as well as serve as a vocational, educational and industrial center for future generations. Additionally, the non-profit Autoseum will incorporate restaurants, cafes and retail shops, a catering hall and media center for weddings, press conferences and theme parties as well an inter-active center featuring a showcase for the public with the focus on community and family-oriented events.
As of press time, 10 of the most famous cars in the world, including the original TV series Batmobile and the Dukes of Hazzard General Lee, Knight Rider's K.I.T.T., the
Ghostbusters
ambulance, James Bond's Aston-Martin, the Monkee-mobile and the Starsky & Hutch Gran Torino are among those vehicles expected to be on display. Barris will also exhibit some of his Hollywood Star Cars, including vehicles from The Fast & The Furious, x-X-x Secret Agent and D K-1 along with a one-of-a-kind 30-foot, black, winged, phantom limousine never before seen in the U.S. Exhibit vehicles subject to change.
The three-day event will also feature a tailgate party on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. with live entertainment, food, music, a custom car show with trophies, rides, vendors, psychics and prizes, plus much more.
