"On Tuesday, Aug. 5, I ask all readers to join me for the 2nd Annual National Night Out to be held in Glen Cove and New Cassel.
"For 24 years, National Night Out has been celebrated throughout the United States in more than 11,000 communities. Over the years this program has effectively heightened crime awareness, promoted drug prevention and most importantly opened the doors of communication between citizens and their local law enforcement agencies.
"This year I am happy to announce that National Night Out will be held in two locations in our 13th Assembly District. I am hopeful that this event will bring us closer and enhance our community spirit.
"In Glen Cove's Village Square, between 6 and 9 p.m. families will have the opportunity to tour the Glen Cove Police Station, Fire Department vehicles and EMS vehicles. There will be entertainment and refreshments and each family will leave with a child identification kit.
"In New Cassel, the festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a parade. The event will continue at Martin "Bunky" Reid Park. There will be crime prevention information, health-care service providers, cultural entertainment, music and dancing, and much more.
"Again, I encourage all residents throughout our district to attend National Night Out. It will be a positive and enjoyable event for the entire family. I will be attending both New Cassel and Glen Cove. I hope to see you there."
