Opinion

(Editor's Note: Senator Craig Johnson sent the following letter to Long Island Rail Road President Helena Williams. It is being reprinted here at the senator's request.)

I would like to request that, despite your recent announcement that the Third Track project is to be delayed indefinitely, you reconsider your position on fixing the Ellison Avenue bridge. As you know, the structure is in extreme disrepair and I believe it requires immediate attention.

When we met earlier in the year, you stated your desire to tie these two projects together. In light of your recent decision, I respectfully request that you revisit the issue of the Ellison Avenue Bridge as there are a number of safety concerns that must be dealt with in a timely manner.

I would be happy to host a meeting in my office with you and local officials to discuss this further. I thank you in advance for your cooperation. Should you require anything further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you.

Craig M. Johnson

Senator, 7th District
