On May 7, Carle Place High School senior Noelle Martello set a new school record and personal career high of 1,000 saves. Martello has been a member of the Carle Place Varsity Lacrosse Team for the past four years, three of which she has served as starting goalkeeper, averaging about 250 saves a season. In the 2007 season, Martello aided her team in achieving the status of Conference III undefeated champions. This season her team is currently 7-2-1 and is looking forward to continuing its success in post season.
According to coach Liz Gilmartin, Martello has been the anchor of the team and has come up big in many of the games. The coach describes Martello as an outstanding athlete who is respected by all of her teammates. Martello's position as goalie has a tremendous impact on the team, said Gilmartin, adding that Martello has an excellent sense of the field, superb reaction time and handles very well under pressure situations.
