Earlier this month, the Westbury High School Varsity Baseball Team completed a three-game sweep over Roosevelt. The sweep was the team's first in many years and the games were won by a score of 17-7, 13-5 and 16-10.
The offensive output was led by senior first baseman Bladimir Penado who had 11 hits for the Dragons, including two triples, a double, six stolen bases and 8 RBIs. Nick Arevalo was also a large contributor with eight hits, three doubles, a triple, seven stolen bases and seven runs scored. Arevalo also pitched six innings, allowing only two runs while striking out 10. Additionally, junior shortstop Hashim Naveed added six hits and 10 stolen bases while senior second baseman and captain Rafael De La Cruz chipped in with six hits, seven RBIs and three doubles.
The late season success has been a direct result of the team's dedication and commitment to getting better. The team is looking to take this confidence into the last week of the season against first-place West Hempstead.
