Blemishes of Defeated Spending Plans Start to Fade
On May 20, residents of the Westbury School District voted 1,070 to 839 in favor of a $98,724,521 spending plan for 2008-2009, ending two consecutive years of failed budgets and a string of rejected first go proposals over the past six years.
Carle Place, East Meadow Budgets Approved
On May 20, residents of the Carle Place School District voted 552 to 314 in favor of the $42,832,135 spending plan for 2008-2009. Listed on the ballot as Proposition #1, the approved budget is a 4.97 percent or $2,083,145 increase over the current year's budget of $40,803,990.
Westbury Baseball Sweeps Roosevelt
Earlier this month, the Westbury High School Varsity Baseball Team completed a three-game sweep over Roosevelt. The sweep was the team's first in many years and the games were won by a score of 17-7, 13-5 and 16-10.
Carle Place Senior Noelle Martello Sets New School, Career Record
On May 7, Carle Place High School senior Noelle Martello set a new school record and personal career high of 1,000 saves. Martello has been a member of the Carle Place Varsity Lacrosse Team for the past four years, three of which she has served as starting goalkeeper, averaging about 250 saves a season.
