The Mineola PAL Chiefs 5th Grade Boys Lacrosse Team played on Mother's Day in Northport and beat the Tigers 8-3. The Chiefs imposed their will on Northport. Besides it being another hard hitting game, this game was about speed and passing.
Offensively, the Chiefs dominated possession. Speedracing midfielders Peter McCormack, Thomas O'Connell, Brian Smith and Mikey Elefonte made it difficult for the Tigers to keep up while midfielders James Gerstner and Kyle Dunleavy battled the Tigers for every ground ball and attackmen Chris Lockwood, Dominick Paggi and Patrick McGowan kept the pressure on in Northport's defensive zone. The Chiefs swarming defense, led by defensemen Jake Conners, Chris Asam and Gavin Dowd frustrated the Tigers. Goalie John Clancy put together his strongest performance in net making 16 saves.

The Mineola PAL third grade Chiefs remain unbeaten at 5-0-1 as they beat Huntington Black 7-3. It was a total team effort as they dominated this game from the opening face-off to the final horn.
The Chiefs were passing to the open men and helping each other on defense as they played a complete game as a team. The key for Mineola was keeping possession and the Chiefs played great on defense.
It all started in goal as goalies Joe Megiel (8 saves for three quarters) and Charlie Clancy (2 saves in one quarter) played very well. Defensively, Mineola focused on dislodging the ball from the sticks of the Huntington players, which led to getting groundballs. They totaled 19 groundballs while preventing Huntington from getting few quality chances and only nine shots. Members of this elite unit, also known as the "Magnificent Seven," are Omar Burns (4 groundballs), Mark Cavalaro (3 groundballs), Max Gerow (3 groundballs), Luke Pacher (3 groundballs), Mike Chase (2 groundballs), Charlie Clancy and Neal Ressa (3 groundballs).
Offensively, Mineola was totally awesome as they kept possession of the ball in the offensive zone with a ton of crisp passes to the open man, sometimes completing three or four passes before shooting the ball. Seven different players had a hand in the scoring for Mineola. The best play of the game came when John Stabile won the face-off, Campbell Goulet picked up the ground ball, passed to Tommy McCune, who found Brendan Krebs on the crease. He finished the play by blasting a shot past the Huntington goalie. It was a great play by all involved. Once again, Mineola's depth of running four midfields and two attack lines wore down an over-matched Huntington team.
Midfield lines: Red: Mike Wozniank, Brendan Krebs (5 groundballs), Adrian Diskin (4 groundballs); White: Chris Ruscillo (4 groundballs), Campbell Goulet (3 groundballs), John Keyes (2 groundballs); Blue: Joe Grimm (3 groundballs), Chris Keyes and John Stabile (3 groundballs).
Gold: Jake Lopez (3 groundballs), Dylan Parzych (6 groundballs) and Will Kinney. On the attack - Mike Scaldaferi (9 groundballs), Dan Powell (8 groundballs), Tom McCune (4 groundballs), Kevin Small, Liam Mooney, Lewis Gramma (2 groundballs) and Connor Feit (2 groundballs).
This was an outstanding performance by the Chiefs. Their unselfish play, domination on shots, ground balls and face-offs (7 for 8) led to a complete team victory. Game balls were awarded to Brendan Krebs (2 goals, 1 assist), Adian Diskin (1 assist, first point of the year) and Neal Ressa (3 groundballs).
Scoring summary: Brendan Krebs (2 goals, 1 assist), Dan Powell (2 goals), Tommy McCune (1 goal, 1 assist), Campbell Goulet (1 goal), Mike Scaldaferi (1 goal), John Keyes (1 assist) and Adian Diskin (1 assist).
