The Westbury Amateur Baseball Association (WABA) held its Opening Day Ceremony April 12. At this time, the Westbury Little League kicked of its 2008 season and, despite the threat of rain, the opening day celebration received a large turnout of supporters.
Following the opening festivities, attendees enjoyed refreshments and many stayed to watch two exciting baseball games. The Bunky Reid Allstar Tigers and the Gino's Nationals played to a 9 - 9 tie while the Donohue Cecere Reds played a great game but lost to the Jericho Bulls 6- 4.
The WABA Board of Directors would like to thank the following individuals and organizations for their continued support in helping us sustain a successful baseball program for the children of Westbury: New York State Senator Craig Johnson; New York State Assemblyman Rob Walker; Nassau County Legislator Roger Corbin; North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman and Councilman Robert Troiano; Westbury Village Mayor Ernest Strada, Deputy Mayor Joan Boes and Trustee Peter Cavallaro; the Westbury Department of Public Works; the Westbury Fire and Water District; the Westbury Middle School Band, which was led by Eugene Neal; and Westbury Board of Education Trustees Karin Campbell and Larry Wornum.
A big heartfelt thanks to the local businesses and organizations sponsoring Westbury Little League teams. Their continued support throughout the years is priceless and truly appreciated.
