Carle Place High School senior Megan McHugh senior was recently named the recipient of the Citibank/News 12 Scholar-Athlete for the 2007-2008 school year.
Megan, the school's 21st recipient of the award, is a well-rounded young lady who has been recognized as an extraordinary person for her numerous contributions in the classroom, on the field, and with her involvement in many extracurricular activities here at Carle Place Middle/High School. For those of us who have had the privilege of teaching or coaching Megan, all have expressed similar thoughts about her strong character, as well as acknowledging her amazing academic and athletic abilities. Megan is a self-motivated student-athlete who is an inspired person that also inspires others.
Over the past four years, Megan has managed to stay in the top 20 percent of her class all the while playing three varsity sports. She has scored 1960 on her SATs and continues to study a rigorous course load throughout high school, including accelerated and honors classes. Megan has learned to prioritize her academic focus while still remaining steady and dependable. She is a wonderfully adept student who accepts whatever challenges come her way.
This young lady juggles a schedule that would impede the heartiest of achievers. Megan is member of three varsity teams (soccer, winter track and outdoor track and field). She was also a five-year member of the varsity gymnastics team. Megan continues to help out as a manager in her spare time and has earned 14 varsity letters, being among only a select few athletes in Carle Place history to achieve this honor.
Carle Place is proud to have Megan represent the school. She demonstrates great poise and maturity and is an exemplary student-athlete who has earned this most prestigious award. Megan McHugh exemplifies every aspect of the Citibank/News 12 Scholar-Athlete Award.
