Although it may take much more to convince residents otherwise, newly installed Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) President Helena Williams ardently stated earlier this month that the highly controversial "third track" project is not moving forward to accommodate increased freight on the Main Line but rather to improve overall service.

Senior Center Members 'Showcase' their Creative Writing Talents
What do a retired educator, homemaker, librarian, corporate sales executive and newspaper man have in common? They are all members of the Westbury Senior Center's 10-week Adult Cultural Enrichment Studies (ACES) program and they all recently participated in a rousing literary event, the first Westbury Senior Center Creative Writing Showcase, featured their own remarkable original stories.

Troiano Represents U.S. in Youth Friendship Games
Westbury High School senior Travis Troiano recently represented the United States as a Sports Ambassador at the Youth Friendship Games in Holland. He was selected for this honor by People-to-People International, which was started by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1956.

CPHS Varsity Basketball Team Donates $1,000 to ACS
Back in December, Carle Place High School's Boys Varsity Basketball Team participated in the Coaches vs. Cancer basketball tournament, which was held at Herrick's High School. In addition to the Frogs, the four-team tournament featured teams from New Hyde Park, Herricks and Sewanhaka High Schools.
