The SUNY College at Old Westbury Women's Basketball team picked up a season opening win with a 20-point margin of victory over the Keystone Giants at the Clark Athletic Center last week 81-61. Old Westbury is now 1-0 while Keystone College falls to 0-3.
Old Westbury opened with an early 15-0 run with 12:51 left in the first half and never looked back. The Panthers went into the half with a commanding 37-20 lead. Old Westbury stretched the half-time lead to as many as 28 points in the second half, 70-42 with 5:42 remaining in the game. Old Westbury connected on 28 of 63 shots while holding the Giants to 19 of 61 shooting from the floor. The Panthers edged out Keystone in the steal column, 13-9.
Old Westbury posted four Panthers in the double-digit point column with newcomer Shameeka Bryan leading the way with 19 points. Bryan added seven boards, four assists and two steals. Pamela Robinson netted 17 points including 9 of 9 from the charity stripe to go along with five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Ashley Freeman tallied 11 points on 3 of 5 shooting from beyond the arc in addition to five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Shannon Gilly added 11 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals before fouling out in the closing minutes. Shalyn Molnar totaled eights points and finished with a 4 of 5 effort from the field, while Old Westbury finished with a 44-percent effort overall. Sharifa Graham poured in nine points and nabbed three steals off the bench.
Keystone was led by Kerry Fallon's 16-point effort. Fallon added nine rebounds, four assists and four steals despite giving up eight turnovers. Yasmeen Bates totaled a double- double, pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds to go with 12 points.
