The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) announced on Oct. 11 that it saved over $20 million this summer by using the new Neptune electric transmission cable to bring nearly 1.2 million megawatt hours (MWh) of low-cost power to Long Island during the peak summer season in July, August and September when demand for electricity is highest.

The 10-year-old Maroon Chiefs opened their playoff run by beating Hempstead 20-0 in the first round. It was a dominating performance by the Chiefs on both offense and defense. The Chiefs scored early on a run by Andrew Cunningham on the opening drive of the game. The defense got on the field and displayed their dominance.

The Westbury Okinawan Karate School, which is affiliated with the Westbury Recreation Department and the Long Island Shidokan Association, has teamed up to conduct a Karate Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 18. The tournament will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Westbury Village Sports Center, 346 Post Avenue.
