ShOA Rallies in Support of Contract, Binding Arbitration
The Sheriff Officers Association (ShOA), the union representing some 1,100 Nassau County correction officers, has been without a contract since December 2004. Contract negotiations with the county over the past two years have been unsuccessful as have attempts by the union to obtain binding arbitration, which requires the passage of home rule legislation by a vote of 13 legislators before the bill can be reviewed at a state level.

Library Budget Passes, Dobrin Elected Trustee
The Westbury Memorial Public Library's 2007-2008 spending plan of $3,008,800 was approved by voters April 10. Residents voted 187 to 44 in favor of the spending plan, which is a $53,000 increase of the current year's budget of $2,955,800. In addition, Eric Dobrin was elected to a five-year trustee term. Dobrin received 164 votes, defeating Fred Scheinfeld, who received 83 votes.
