ShOA: Sheriff Is Endangering Officers' Health, Safety
In a demonstration Oct. 30, the Sheriff Officers Association (ShOA) of Nassau County, the union that represents 1,100 correction officers at the Nassau Correctional Facility (NCCF), expressed the lack of confidence they have in the leadership of county Sheriff Edward Reilly, accusing him of endangering the health and safety of officers and inmates as well as the safety of the surrounding community.

Pilot GPS Tracking Program Will Monitor Sex Offenders 24/7
State Senator Michael Balboni and Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi announced a new state grant to fund a Global Positioning System (GPS) Pilot Program to provide 24/7 monitoring of convicted sex offenders in the county. Senator Balboni secured a $500,000 state grant to implement the pilot program that could serve as a model for other counties throughout New York State. The funding will cover the technology and staffing required for 24-hour supervision starting Nov. 15.

Chiefs Defeat Floral Park for Spot in Playoffs
In their final regular season game, the Mineola PAL Chiefs 9-year-old team went on the road and beat the Floral Park Titans 14-6. With the victory the Chiefs record finished at 5-2-1, and made them eligible for the playoffs. This is a first for the Mineola Chiefs Organization in over a decade.
