(Editor's Note: The Carle Place Homeowners represent those who signed a petition opposed to a change of zoning at the former BOCES site. The group does not represent all Carle Place homeowners.)
Carle Place homeowners representatives went to the Town of North Hempstead meeting on Oct. 24 to ensure that the continuation was taking place at a hearing on the [former] BOCES property as this was still on the official calendar.
This was in fact continued but we did get to speak with regard to the town meeting that we have been assured will be held in Carle Place before any vote will take place.
We, as Carle Place homeowners, went on the record requesting the next town meeting held in Carle Place be recorded; unfortunately; this was met with a great deal of resistance by the town board with the exception of Councilman Angelo Ferarra who did not have a problem with this as long as we were the ones doing the recording and not left up to the town.
This is not a problem and we will make arrangements to have this done correctly and fairly as so it should. Discussion followed and Supervisor Jon Kaiman was still resistant to the idea of a recorded town meeting even to the point of feeling that we were challenging the integrity of the council but Edmond Rice, as Carle Place homeowners representative, spoke for the record that we were not challenging their integrity but counting on it! At this point, Supervisor Kaiman said he would take it under advisement and the hearing was again continued with no date set.
We feel that this should not be a problem and that any of the residents wishing to speak off the record we would of course be happy to comply with their wishes, as the last thing we want is to intimidate anyone into not speaking their mind or to impose on their freedom of speech. We will continue to keep on top of this important issue and keep you informed via our website at www.carleplace.homestead.com.
